Some Helpful Tips
If you want to minimize tub or shower backups, or maybe even try some simple ways to get your drains running more smoothly, here are some tips for you:
Use a hair strainer – Hair strainers can be found in most home improvement stores, and will help catch the hair before it goes down the drain. Hair clogs account for the vast majority of tub/shower backups, so keeping it from going down the drain is a great way to keep your drains flowing clear.
Vinegar and hot water – Every once in a while, pour a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar to 2/3 hot water down the drain, and let it sit there for at least an hour. Then run plenty of hot water down the drain. This is a great way to keep your drains flowing better, without using pipe damaging chemicals.
Wire hangers – If you have easy access to your drain, try unbending a wire clothes hanger, and VERY carefully insert it into the drain. Stop if you feel any resistance, and spin the hanger a little bit. Many times, when you pull the hanger out, it will bring a clump of hair with it, and your tub or shower will begin draining again.
Stay away from chemicals – Over the counter drain cleaning chemicals will damage your pipes. They contain acids that will eat away at your pipes. Using them is never a good idea, and can result in all kinds of very messy, and very costly problems.
When all else fails, and you find yourself needing a true professional to get your drains running smoothly again, give Gogo Rooter a call for shower drain repair. You will be glad you did!
